Wings to fly....
The past two weeks I've watched some amazing movies. I watched - "Inception" (which btw is brilliant), "Shutter Island", Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Eclipse (which I had very high expectations of and they fell flat on their face).
How to train your dragaon, Avatar, Inception, Shutter Island, Benjamin Button - one word that describes all of them - AWESOME! Creativity par excellence. Imagination that knows no bounds. Passion that gets translated into brilliant movies on screen. Acting thats as natural as breathing. Awesome!
These movies left me speechless. All of them. People who've made these movies deserve a standing applause. These movies make me wonder why we never make such movies in India. We have great minds and great people. How come we at Bollywood don't come up with some creative product of our imagination that competes with some of these movies?
I wonder if the Indian primary education system we take so much pride in is the culprit. We teach our kids to mug up history, geography, scientific laws. We Indians have a sharp minds, are good at maths and logic, make a huge population of some of the best companies and institutes in the world. But, do we teach them to imagine? Do we teach them to take a flight of imagination and enjoy the world that we get transported to? Or do teach our kids that imagination is an unsafe territory that we must stay away from?
Why is it that we shun and shoo away those few creative people we have in this country like M F Hussain? Why would an Indian renowned artist of M F Hussain fame want to take up the citizenship of another country rather than live his life here in the country he claims his heart is in?
Why is it that the special effects in lots of Hollywood animation movies are done in India or by Indians but we have very very few animation movies made by Bollywood?
Where is our creative streak? Where are our wings that let us fly high to our imaginary lands?
