I love India and everything Indian. But, I agree that there are so many things about this country that majorly need a overhaul.
* Law and Order in this country is in bad shape. To get an FIR lodged you need to either know a hotshot Minister/MP, a senior Police officer or a journalist. Simply because you are a law abiding citizen is not reason enough for you to believe you are going to not be trouble by the police. So someone files an FIR for a theft, at some other place a rich man who knows the right strings to pull complains against a poor man who offers to buy his dog. The police rush to the rich mans house and arrest the poor man for the theft reported earlier.
* I have a friend who has a slightly weak right wrist due to which her wrist looks twisted. It works just fine. But when she needs to get a driving license the RTO needs a certificate from a doc stating her hand is fine. I know rich powerful men who do not know how to start a car who have a license. Their housemaid has a driving license. I believe they are now trying to get their dog a license.
* We are still a country which is unfair to women. As a girl child, she is aborted, abandoned and sometimes murdered at birth. As a kid, we prefer to send our sons to better schools and let our daughters learn how to cook and clean, studying is a secondary skill. As a teenager, we teach her that if she gets raped/molested or eve teased it has to be her fault -maybe she didnt dress right. She is not given the free right to marry the one she likes. She gets married and goes to a family who treats her like a bank account that gets the husband some free money and furniture and ofcourse the entire family gets a free house maid -someone who will clean, cook and mate. Oh and all hell might break lose if she dares to give birth to a girl child. We love grandsons.
* If you have a husband who is understanding, you need to be grateful for that and take shit from his entire family.
* In case your bike get stolen. You've just lost your fav automobile, have suffered financial loss and the emotional trauma - since it was your fault you parked at the wrong place at the wrong time. You have to pull strings to get the FIR lodged. After a few months, to get a certificate from the police for insurance that says the bike has not been found - you need to bribe the police officer. More financial loss!
* A girl gets raped - the best solution according to some tv channels (and sadly according to some people) is to get the girl married to the rapist to allow him to grope at whatever body part he likes whenever and where ever he likes.
* The other day a husband was beating his wife on the road, brutally. People just gather around them to watch the free show. No one wants to get into the affair. Oh no maybe not-some people suggested to the husband that its his personal affair and should take it inside his house - beat her inside the house -oh thats fine! Some of my colleagues rushed to help her. Were about to beat up the guy when the wife stopped them. I am not sure whether it was because we teach women to respect their husband cause oh they are our gods or was it because she was afraid he'd get it out on her once they were home.
Really? I love this country. I do. But there are so many things that are so wrong and I am not sure I can do anything to help India with these issues.
