A Princess is Remembered....
Rajmata Gayatri Devi left us yesterday. She was 90 and led a good long life. I loved her. She had a spirit. The courage and integrity to stand up for what she believed in no matter what the consequences-a quality thats very rare to find.
She fell in love with the charming prince of Jaipur when she was 12. Married him at the young age of 19 to be his third wife much against the liking of the whole of the world. Inspite of being from a family in which women were pioneers and leaders, she lived up to the traditions of the Rajgharana in Jaipur. Brought about social changes, worked for the state, made world history in politics, since she won by the largest majority ever, and had her name in the Guiness book of records. She was a woman who clearly lived life on her own terms.
Her romance and marriage to Man singh is a fairy tale. Proof that love transcends barriers and borders. Proof that soul mates exist. The way she lived her life with grace and dignity is a proof that all is not lost. That there is still hope for this money-minded self-centered world. That there are people who will fight for the right cause till their very end.
I hope Rajmata that you are at a better place. You shall live forever in our hearts.
This princess shall be remembered.....
